Gavin Basuel, Product UX/ui designer

I’m an individual who thrives on solving problems. I’ve got my start early in college, first in student government, where I revised student policy and created my first website with User Centered Design. I was also involved with a startup for a short time, where I helped design an app. At the time I was racking up Biology Credits, but soon I realized I got a thrill from solving human problems with the medium of design and technology. I was hooked, and every day after my classes I would be learning UX with an online Udemy Course.

I entered Designlab UX Academy online course, where after 520 hours of project-based work or 3 months, I developed my thorough foundation in design theory & tools while creating this portfolio that demonstrates my expertise. I received continual feedback on my work from expert mentors, connected with other students in an online slack community, and practiced mock interviews. I learned the entire user experience design process and built strong skills in each pillar of UX: from research to ideation, to visual design, to prototyping and testing. On this journey into the design, I developed my ability to communicate my design work, defend designs, and respectfully critique other designs.

I'm Industry ready, and aware of today’s: mobile, web, tablet, and VR patterns. I’m constantly learning every day to keep sharp: reading & writing on medium, watching videos or talking with industry professionals at local meetups. Projects I naturally gravitate towards these days are product centered.

I am now looking to work for a company that values innovation, collaboration, design thinking, and is user-centered. When not designing or practicing how to code, I'm finishing up my degree in Science Technology and Society at the University of Washington, training on my road bike, and discovering the next best restaurant in Washington.

Design Process

I have an adaptable design process that varies on the scope of the project and clients needs. Having a core design process allows me to organize my thoughts and solve problems in a systematic way.
